Dopo aver collaborato in diverse registrazioni di Michel Wintsch e dell'Who Trio per la Leo Records, il contrabbassita svizzero Banz Oester debutta in solo con questo Blosperment Suite. Le dieci tracce che compongono la suite sono montate in modo tale da dare vita ad un vero e proprio viaggio di scoperta nel mondo del contrabbasso. Il termine tedesco-svizzero blosperment, “contrabbasso”, fu introtto all’inizio del XX secolo da musicisti itineranti che provenivano dalla foresta boema.

Sperimentale fino ad un certo punto, tanto da rinunciare a loops elettronici e/o uso di sovra-registrazioni per ottenere effetti orchestrali d’amplificazione, Oester aspira più di ogni altra cosa a produrre un suono corposo, d’insieme, ottenuto grazie ad un gran lavorio sul proprio strumento. Grande è quindi l’attenzione prestata alle tecniche nel suonare che in questa suite vengono sviluppate in molteplici direzioni. Ne scaturisce un lavoro piacevolmente acustico, sonoramente vivace e variegato.

Parte della registrazione è stata effettuata dal vivo al Musikfestwochen di Berna. I titoli delle tracce lasciano immaginare una certa ironia che traspira anche all’ascolto. Bel lavoro.
