This week on the Jazz Continuum we kick things off celebrating the earth arrival day of saxophonist John Gilmore, born on this day in 1931. Gilmore is best known for his work with Sun Ra, but here we have him performing with Andrew Hill. Then, some trumpet works form the new release by Adam O'Farrill followed by Franz Koglmann. The show continues with a tribute to the late Benny Golson showcasing his compositions as played by Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Thumbscrew and Quincy Jones as well as his own band work. This month we are celebrating the centennial of bop pianist Bud Powell, this week with tributes from Chucho Valdes and Yoko Miwa. The show will close with new works from theKris Davis Trio and the Lux Quartet co-led by Myra Melford and Allison Miller.Tags
