Stevie Holland: Before Love Has Gone

L'ascolto di Stevie Holland mentre interpreta standard famosi oltre a due canzoni di Gary William Friedman (autore pure di tutti gli arrangiamenti) e "Riverboat Gambler" di Carly Simon fa dimenticare tutto quello che avviene intorno. Poi al secondo ascolto si riesce a focalizzare sull'alto livello di produzione, della perfetta incisione e di come tutte le note, sue e dei musicisti, siano al posto giusto. Mica poco.

La Holland scrive nelle ricche note di copertina che questo disco è pieno di canzoni che sono come un orsacchiotto che le ha tenuto compagnia fin dall'infanzia. Già, non sono tutte composizioni recentissime, ma lei si dà da fare per renderle contemporanee. Va bene che i temi affrontati siano sempre gli stessi (ma cosa può farci la cantante?), ma è anche vero che le sue interpretazioni hanno poco da invidiare a quello che si ascolta da parte di colleghe più famose.

La sua proposta è irreprensibile e calibrata alla perfezione in ogni accento. Lo stesso vale per i comprimari, per gli assoli degli ospiti, la voce è di un'intonazione perfetta, gli arrangiamenti mai banali. Un disco insomma che si fa ascoltare volentieri, fatto da bravissimi artigiani che sanno ben usare i ferri del mestiere.
