Nate Wooley - Fred Lonberg-Holm - Jason Roebke: Throw Down Your Hammer and Sing
È infatti il linguaggio improvvisativo stesso a essere smontato, sminuzzato, smembrato, polverizzato, per dare vita a un paesaggio sonoro di straniante bellezza, nelle strutture pericolanti del quale si aprono squarci lirici che il camerismo di fondo della formazione restituisce con grande finezza.
Non è musica facile, certo, nemmeno "piacevole" secondo i canoni abituali, e richiede anche una particolare attenzione ai "movimenti" del suono, a quelle sue attitudini naturali [nei confronti di materie come il ferro, il legno o la stessa aria che Wooley plasma con il suo strumento] di cui talvolta ci si dimentica. Ma la ricerca che i tre portano avanti nelle cinque lunghe improvvisazioni che compongono il disco è davvero sottile e punta dritto al cuore della relazione tra le tre individualità, annullandone talvolta la riconoscibilità immediata - quale strumento sta producendo questo determinato suono? - per poi disegnare una struggente linea melodica.
Come fascinosi fantasmi, i tre musicisti infestano così di ipotesi soniche i sessanta minuti di questo lavoro, consegnandolo con tutti suoi infissi pericolanti all'ascolto di chi passa: forse attirerà i pazzi, gli incoscienti e i bambini, ma non è forse questo un indizio di magia?
