In questo The Right Touch, inciso nel settembre 1967 e ristampato per la preziosa collana The Rudy Van Gelder Edition, Pearson si avvale di una solida sezione ritmica e di una front-line di primissimo piano per dispiegare tutta la propria sapienza di compositore e arrangiatore. Nulla di rivoluzionario o di epocale, si intende, ma musica di classe con tanto buon gusto, grande musicalità e varietà di ambientazioni sonore.
Si va così dalla gentile bossa nova di “My Love Waits“, ai profumi caraibici della scoppiettante “Los Malos Hombres“, passando per il blues di “Scrap Iron“, con un bollente Turrentine al tenore, fino allo swing leggiadro di “Rotary“ e “Make It Good“.
Disco per amanti di un jazz gradevole, spensierato, ma mai superficiale. The right touch, per l’appunto.
