Steve Lehman Trio, Craig Taborn: The People I Love
Questo stato di cose determina un manifestarsi della materia musicale meno articolato rispetto a precedenti lavori lehmaniani, anche in funzione—come si è detto—della tendenza del leader a far sentire sempre e comunque (o quasi) la sua presenza strumentale. Quartettistici sono i sette brani più ampi del lotto (in calce ai quali si leggono le firme, oltre che ovviamente di Lehman, di Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kenny Kirkland, Jeff Tain Watts e del gruppo elettronico inglese degli Autechre), incorniciati, per così dire, in posizione strategica (primo, quinto e ultimo titolo) da un preludio, un interludio e un postludio di neanche quattro minuti complessivi in cui il sax alto dialoga col solo pianoforte (riprendendo del resto una pratica usuale fra Lehman e Taborn).
Da tutto questo complesso di cose emerge un disco solido e convinto, di ascolto mai problematico o tedioso (anche se qua e là si respira un minimo di meccanicità). In attesa della prossima puntata, che siamo certi non tarderà.
