Steve Khan Trio: The Green Field

Dopo nove anni, Steve Khan ripropone la formula del trio e richiama in formazione John Patitucci e Jack DeJohnette. The Green Field, più che degno successore di Got My Mental, vede anche una sezione ritmica latin con la presenza di un trio di percussionisti di tutto rispetto (Ralph Irizarry, Roberto Quintero e Manolo Badrena).

Così, attraverso la riproposizione di un repertorio di rilievo - il chitarrista spazia tra le brillanti interpretazioni di "Congeniality" di Ornette Coleman e "Riot" di Harbie Hancock, l'intramontabile "Sanctuary/Nefertiti" di Wayne Shorter così come "Eronel" di Thelonious Monk e composizioni originali - Khan, in gran spolvero, mette in evidenza tutto il suo inconfondibile fraseggio chiaro e articolato, appassionato e eclettico.

Tra i luoghi comuni tipici di un trio e le gradite sortite nelle commistioni di latin jazz ("You Stepped Out of a Dream"), Steve Khan esibisce un coefficiente stilistico impareggiabile, senza togliere spazio vitale al talento, ormai riconosciuto, dei suoi importanti comprimari. Un interplay che si impreziosisce lungo tutto il tragitto e fino ai diciotto minuti finali della title track: un brano che con la sua evoluzione sembra essere il manifesto programmatico di possibilità lanciato nel futuro prossimo del terzetto.

The Green Field è un CD che vola via, tra raffinatezza ed eleganza, come un soffio di vento rinfrescante.
