Cacaw: Stellar Power

Inizialmente, siamo nel 2010, Cacaw si presenta come trio rigorosamente acustico nel quale le composizioni del pianista Landon Knoblock fungono essenzialmente da pretesto per alimentare l'estro improvvisativo dei componenti del gruppo in forme più o meno organizzate e con diversi gradi di libertà esecutiva. Poi, in maniera per certi versi misteriosa, avviene un deciso cambio di rotta. L'aspetto compositivo prende il sopravvento e, lungi dal rivelarsi una sorta di gabbia per l'estro dei tre, si trasforma in rampa di lancio per gli esperimenti elettrici del leader.

E la navicella spaziale denominata Cacaw - termine inesistente, non cercatene la traduzione sul vocabolario - decolla tra scenari kubrickiani, robot innamorati e stelle dall'energia debordante. La miscela è ad alto tasso di infiammabilità, gli elementi cercano vie di fuga improbabili e alla fine si scontrano tra stridore di metalli, sfrigolii elettrici, vibrazioni ed onde sonore impazzite.

La batteria di Jeff Davis possiede la carica energetica e il passo marziale necessari ad orientarsi nella galassia sonora del leader, impegnato ad avvolgere ogni cosa in nebulose ora narcotizzanti, ora acide e nervose. Sta al formidabile sax di Oscar Noriega fungere da richiamo terrestre con la sua voce dalle sembianze umane, ambasciatore di sentimenti e di passioni in un mondo sempre più virtuale e complicato da decifrare.
