Peter Madsen with Alfred Vogel: Soul of the Underground
Viene così messa in campo una rigogliosa sinestesia di note e colori, volti a ricreare gli intrecci che Madsen intravede tra i clusters di Cecyl Taylor e l'action painting di Jason Pollock e Willem de Kooning. All'ascoltatore si richiede un duplice piano di comprensione tecnica ed emotiva, per via di polisemici rimandi connotativi (legati alla musica) e denotativi (il ricordo di un quadro). Ne discende un flusso aleatorio e di difficile comprensibilità, ma va elogiato il coraggio del leader che con un sontuoso gioco di variazioni prende nettamente le distanze da una evocazione meramente filologica. Le tredici tracce sono intessute di un caleidoscopio avvolgente di idee, anche se a tratti un po' sfuggente e pretenzioso.
