RadioKUKAorkest: Songs for Broadcast

Ascoltare Songs for Broadcast è stato come ritrovare un vecchio reperto di famiglia nella soffitta di casa. Uno di quei bauli impolverati e misteriosi che nel corso degli anni conservano ricordi e storie affascinanti. E che una volta aperti, rivelano oggetti apparentemente alla rinfusa, brandelli di memoria che lentamente si ricompongono per ridare luce ad immagini impolverate o del tutto scolorite.

Nel baule sonoro di Songs for Broadcast c’è una fisarmonica che sa di sagra paesana, profuma di zucchero filato e canditi, evoca giostre di cavalli ed il buon tempo che fu. Ci sono un violoncello e un contrabbasso, austeri (ma non troppo) custodi di una classica seriosità, con uno sguardo più che benevolo verso l’accidente, la svolta imprevista, la sonorità poco ortodossa. Come pure trova posto un clarinetto che funge da battitore libero, si insinua guardingo negli anfratti a disposizione e come un folletto dispettoso si diverte a gettare scompiglio.

Quartetto acustico da camera con il dono dell’improvvisazione o gruppo jazzistico che flirta con la musica accademica, fate voi, RadioKUKAorkest si rivela un formidabile ensemble che fa musica a 360° gradi.

Non vi è un attimo di tregua in Songs for Broadcast benché il clima generale dell’incisione si possa definire tutt’altro che frenetico. E’ la capacità dei musicisti di giocare (quanto questo termine anglosassone e francofono è ben più significativo del nostro suonare!) con gli spazi, con gli intervalli, con i ritmi, con gli stili, con i timbri, con le dinamiche, con gli strumenti, a tenere desta l’attenzione dell’ascoltatore.

Non vi è un attimo di tregua perché le composizioni, formalmente ineccepibili, procedono ora a spirale, ora per rifrazione e quando la linearità sembra prendere il sopravvento la linea melodica del violoncello, che sembra provenire direttamente da una corte settecentesca, deve fare i conti con i cluster della fisarmonica, i borbottii del clarone o uno jodel improvvisato.

Non vi è un attimo di tregua in Songs for Broadcast perché, semplicemente, è un disco meraviglioso.
