Ensemble 5: Solstice

Ensemble 5 nasce da un jam session avvenuta a Zurigo nel 2010 come incrocio di differenti percorsi musicali con origine nel lontano 1992 dal Collective 4tet, formazione profondamente ancorata alla tradizione del free jazz e della libera improvvisazione tout- court che il batterista svizzero Heinz Geisser mise in piedi durante un lungo soggiorno a New York. Insieme all'altro veterano del gruppo, il trombonista Robert Morgenthaler, Ensemble 5 vede all'opera tre giovani musicisti che forniscono combustile prezioso al fuoco dell'improvvisazione in un abbraccio virtuoso e stimolante tra generazioni dalla mente aperta e dalla voglia continua di mettersi in gioco.

In Solstice non ci sono canovacci né linee guide, composizioni o arrangiamenti ma semplicemente cinque interpreti che si mettono a nudo condividendo sensibilità, idee, intuizioni con un elevato grado di energia e di tensione. Il gruppo si scompone di frequente in duo o in trio quando a prevalere sono atmosfere sospese, indefinite e minimaliste salvo poi ritrovarsi a pieno organico nei momenti più concitati dove una torre di babele dei linguaggi musicali sembra riportare ordine e logica al caos musicale.
