Since My Soul Loved è una composizione in quattro movimenti per violino, viola, violoncello, contrabbasso e piano scritta a Gerusalemme nel 2005 da Yitzhak Yedid. A loro volta i quattro movimenti sono suddivisi in diverse sezioni i cui titoli chiaramente evocativi - tecnica già sperimentata in Passions and Flowers - hanno il compito di aiutare l'ascoltatore a districarsi all'interno dei grovigli sonori spesso imperscrutabili che caratterizzano Since My Soul Loved.

L'intero percorso artistico e discografico del giovane pianista e compositore nato a Tel Aviv, ma sostanzialmente cittadino del mondo, è improntato alla ricerca di una possibile convivenza tra musica classica contemporanea, improvvisazione jazzistica, musica contemporanea orientale e religiosa ebraica, avanguardia. Un tentativo di promuovere un idea di artista globale in grado di assorbire, rielaborare e conversare con i diversi linguaggi musicali del mondo; progetto assai ambizioso che ha trovato adeguata e compiuta realizzazione nella discografia di Yedid, con diversi gradi di intensità.

In Since My Soul Loved, molto più che in altri lavori, le varie anime della sfaccettata figura artistica di Yedid sembrano spogliarsi inesorabilmente delle proprie peculiarità identificanti per sublimarsi senza fragore, in punta di piedi, in un'opera dal deciso impianto contemporaneo. Vi regna sovrano un clima claustrofobico, dettato dai toni scuri del quartetto d'archi, dalla lentezza a volte esasperante dei tempi d'esecuzione, dai cluster inquietanti del pianoforte. La tensione viene alimentata da irregolari improvvisi staccati sui registri acutissimi degli archi che aprono squarci di luce nelle tenebre che ammantano Since My Soul Loved, lavoro duro, complesso, forse un poco pretenzioso ma che conferma Yedid musicista dal grande spessore artistico.
