Rob Mazurek: Rome
«Twombly at New Church» è lezione di stile, minimale esplorazione dello spazio, affascinante gioco di vuoto e di silenzi scosso da leggeri fremiti dell'aria. In «Gazing Through Walls (Two Paintings by Caravaggio)» Mazurek si rivela pianista intenso e originale, impegnato a districarsi tra suoni acustici e visioni elettroniche che ben rappresentano l'animo inquieto del pittore lombardo. «King of Rome (For Pino Saulo)» , sono fondali elettronici che interagiscono, stavolta, con la cornetta, in un mood sospeso ed onirico, interrotto inaspettatamente dalle cadenze percussive e reiterate del piano preparato. «Sweet Life in Disrepair (For Fellini)» è funambolica prima parte di cornetta cui segue un (o)scuro e drammatico divagare pianistico.
La registrazione risale al 2014, da allora ne è passata di acqua sotto i ponti delle vicende artistiche di Mazurek, ma Rome risulta testimonianza quanto mai preziosa e vitale della poliedricità visionaria di Mazurek, figura ormai imprescindibile nella musica improvvisata dei nostri giorni.
