Morris - Vandermark - Gray: Rebus
Il disco, registrato in studio, segue di soli due giorni la performance del trio al Tonic di New York, nel gennaio 2006: sei tracce identificate solo dal titolo "rebus" e da un numero progressivo. Percorsi impervi, timbricamente scabri, non molto amichevoli per l'ascoltatore.
Caratteristica di questi rebus è che a mettere in ordine le lettere le cose non si chiariscono più di tanto: meglio allora guardarle confliggere, ipotizzare soluzioni fantasiose, prendere un bel respiro e non farsi innervosire dai ritmi spastici e dalle contorsioni di sassofono e chitarra, identificarsi con l'informe.
Gira e rigira il disco tra le mani, non si trova la mitica frasetta "per i solutori più che abili" che compare nelle migliori riviste di enigmistica. Chi ha già dimestichezza con una musica improvvisata così poco gioiosa e comunicativa si cimenterà con gusto. Altri getteranno la spugna. Non tra le cose migliori dei tre, comunque.
