D'Auria - Caruso Duo: Piccole Storie

Sono Piccole storie, sì, quelle incluse in questo lavoro intimo e dialogico, giocato quasi interamente in duo tra il trombonista Beppe Caruso e il percussionista Francsco D'Auria. Ma anche storie sottili e sofisticate, create all'uopo grazie alla relazione che lega i due nell'interazione artistica.

Entrambi musicisti dalle molte collaborazioni (Caruso suona stabilmente con Trovesi e Schiaffini, D'Auria con Mirabassi e Michele Rabbia), padroni dei rispettivi strumenti (Caruso è anche alla tuba, D'Auria gioca con tubi, zucche e percussioni da lui inventate), i due propongono un repertorio in larga parte originale, ponendo al centro del lavoro un bel tema ospite ("Isibisù") - che funge da territorio sul quale esprimere l'uno una melodia senza tempo e quasi classica, l'altro sonorità africane alla kalimba - e al suo termine un bell'omaggio a Abdullah Ibrahim ("The Wedding") - simbolo tanto dell'Africa spesso evocata, quanto di un'arte originale e senza confini.

Così, tra dialogo e suoni attentamente definiti e sviluppati, tra melodie evocative e ritmi imprevisti, tra sperimentazioni originali ma mai ostiche o estreme, il CD offre scenari tanto piacevoli, quanto personali. Fino a comporre, nel suo complesso, una storia non così piccola: quella di una ricerca musicale vissuta con genuinità, non scontata, permeata dalla scommessa su qualcosa di proprio.

Non è "jazz da edicola," né mera messa in scena di esotismi. È piuttosto qualcosa che, seppur difficile da etichettare, può donare all'ascoltatore attento momenti di bella musica. Speriamo che qualcuno se ne accorga.
