Living Coltrane: Out of This World

Out of This World è disco solido, sobrio e raffinato. I quattro esperti musicisti, nell'affrontare il repertorio di Coltrane, evitano le lunghe e infuocate cavalcate tipiche del sassofonista di Hamlet (la media dei brani è sui cinque/sei minuti) per privilegiare un'interpretazione intima, spirituale. Le composizioni conservano la struttura originaria, che viene circuita con discrezione per arrivare ad esaltarne l'eleganza armonica, coglierne gli aspetti timbrici meno usuali, connotarle con mutevoli scansioni ritmiche.

La title track, per esempio, è danzante, gioiosa con il soprano di Stefano Cantini lanciato da un elastico walkin bass verso l'esposizione/esplorazione della melodia, il piano di Francesco Maccianti impegnato in un lavoro ritmico armonico di gran gusto e la batteria di Piero Borri leggera ma incisiva. "Crescent " è costruita, con delicatezza ed estrema attenzione alle nuance timbriche, attorno ad un'intensa introduzione di Ares Tavolazzi e regala tre minuti di bellezza che gioca con i silenzi. E l'ipnotico andamento di "India" viene declinato in modo da esaltare la componente melodica del brano mantenendo il fascino esotico dell'originale.
