Hans Olding: No Place Like Home

Il chitarrista svedese Hans Olding si sta avvicinando alla soglia dei quarant'anni (è nato a fine febbraio del 1975) e dimostra di aver raggiunto una maturità ben evidente. In questo album le sette composizioni eseguite sono tutte scritte da lui e mostrano quanto sappia coordinare le linee melodiche con le armonie raffinate e moderne del jazz del nuovo secolo. I brani sono affrontati in quartetto con l'aggiunta in un paio di brani di vibrafono e di clarinetto.

L'esecuzione è elegante e solida, ben strutturata. Per certi versi ricorda i maestri dello strumento della seconda metà del secolo scorso, da Attila Zoller a Kenny Burrell, da George Benson a Jimmy Raney. Senza dimenticare musicisti più recenti come Pat Metheny e Kurt Rosenwikel. Ma Hans Olding ha la capacità di esprimere una sua voce originale, con proprie peculiarità e con uno svolgimento narrativo che si fa sempre interessante, anche riascoltandolo più e più volte. Adesso il passo successivo potrebbe essere quello di abbandonare alcune certezze ormai acquisite, per tuffarsi a testa in giù nelle acque più pericolose. Diamo tempo al tempo.
