Claudio Giovagnoli: Native Quartet
Il lavoro scorre con grande piacevolezza, su atmosfere da jazz moderno non fotocopiato (come purtroppo succede assai spesso) e ricco di espressività. Giovagnoli ne è l’indiscusso protagonista, mettendo in luce eccellenti qualità soprattutto al sax soprano (ma si noti l’ottima “Wise’s Mood” al tenore) e belle idee compositive.
Queste ultime portano Giovagnoli ad accorpare le diciassette tracce, tutte dotate di un valore autonomo, in sette “sinfonie” di più movimenti, cosa che conferisce al lavoro ulteriori sfumature.
Le atmosfere sono cangianti, dalla fusion acustica dell’avvio (con dedica esplicita ai Weather Report) al latin, dalle ballad a lirismi più propri della musica nostrana (mai però ostentati e perciò artificiosi).
Molte le tracce degne d’interesse, tra le quali dedichiamo una menzione particolare alla Sinfo 2, con entrambi i brani “Vento di scirocco” e “Spanish”
Una menzione anche a Paolino Dalla Porta, asse portante attorno al quale ruota l’espressività del leader.
