Vincent Herring & Earth Jazz: Morning Star
Si potrebbe riassumere così Morning Star, ma vale certamente la pena spendere delle righe per sottolineare l'avvolgente suono d'insieme dell'iniziale "Do You Remember," la vena funky della coltraniana "Naima," caratterizzata dal basso corposo di Richie Goods, le varianti stilistiche ai confini con la disco di "Tom Tom," le sinuose movenze di "Soul Leo" giocata su ritmi rallentati. Obbligatorio rimarcare il lirismo e l'intensità dei soli firmati da Herring, il quale si distingue come figura principale praticamente in ogni brano proposto, sia che si tratti di ballad, come la conclusiva "You Got Soul," che di up-tempo.
Morning Star è un disco che profuma a più riprese di anni Settanta, e che emana molta elettricità, ma che grazie all'apporto di Herring mantiene ben salda la connessione con la tradizione boppistica, in un connubio di innegabile appeal.
