Roberto Magris Quintet: Morgan Rewind: A Tribute to Lee Morgan, Vol. 1
Ambito bop, con temi esposti con chiarezza e soli a ripetizione di pregievole fattura, dove Magris dimostra un pianismo duttile e sempre efficace alla riuscita d'insieme, e dove il trombettista Brandon Lee riesce a ben figurare nel ruolo di primaria importanza. Difficile trovare cali di tensione in un percorso che conosce momenti di rara intensità ritmico- melodica, come nella ondeggiante "Ceora," situazioni ad alta velocità, come quelle di "Hocus Pocus," e passaggi dal sapore bluesy che non tradiscono mai la stretta aderenza con una tradizione consolidata. Nel quintetto condotto da Magris si avverte netta la forte unione di intenti, dalla quale sgorga una musica emozionante, tesa e coinvolgente.
L'album si pone come un riuscito tuffo nel passato e si lascia ascoltare con curiosità per l'intera durata. Al termine del CD l'intervista di dodici minuti al batterista Albert "Tootie" Heath, condotta da Paul Collins, chiude un discorso di sicuro interesse.
