Albert van Veenendaal: Minimal Damage

Prendete un bravo ricercatore che già in passato si sia messo in luce per interessanti sperimentazioni sonore molto vicino agli universi di Cage e che ami il minimalismo ricercato. Immergetelo nel grande mare della musica contemporanea attuale, magari in un paese che di queste cose ne sa un bel po' come l'Olanda (anche se poi ai concerti di questa tipologia musicale da quelle parti ci va davvero poca gente). Dategli un pianoforte preparato sul quale potersi divertire e chiedetegli di pensare ed eseguire una sorta di piccolo festival di suono minimalista alternativo ai sacri nomi (Glass, Reich e via di conserva).

Il risultato, piuttosto interessante per l'uso "crudo" e secco delle sonorità prescelte, si può chiamare Albert Van Veenendaal, creativo cinquantaquattrenne da Amsterdam che forse qualcuno ricorderà a capo di un gruppo davvero particolare: i Pavlov, pochi anni fa alle prese con un improbabile quanto divertente omaggio non ortodosso a Frank Sinatra.

La sua è in qualche modo musica cinematica, ricca di modalità percussive dalle vive colorazioni, forse le stesse che colpirono tanti anni fa Steve Reich alla ricerca delle fonti filosofiche della musica Gamelan. Van Veenendaal riesce a scardinare l'ovvietà grazie ad un progetto che sembrerebbe formulato per tastiere elettroniche e invece di elettronica... neanche l'ombra. Diavolo di un olandese. Però è davvero tutto lì e manca, forse, il passo in più che avrebbe spostato tutto su ben altre prospettive.
