About the Album
'Focus Out' features Irabagon on alto sax with his New York quartet with Matt Mitchell on piano, Fender Rhodes, Chris Lightcap on electric bass and Dan Weiss on drums. Joining them on "Paper Planes" is improvising vocalist Kokayi. The track, named after a cocktail, is lyrical, joyous, and raucous all at once. Irabagon, a fearless, tireless leader and performer, has one of the best, most innovative quartets in jazz today.
