Un nuovo disco di Sheila Jordan, registrato nel novembre 2016 ad 88 anni, non può che suscitare rispetto e amore. La voce mostra fragilità nella pronuncia e nell'intonazione ma la grande cantante statunitense, amica di Charlie Parker e allieva di Lennie Tristano, combatte i limiti dell'età con l'intatta passione, l'intensità interpretativa e l'autenticità di chi non si limita a cantare il jazz ma lo vive.

In questo concerto italiano, accompagnata da eccellenti partner, la Jordan si conferma inossidabile animale da palcoscenico, capace di coinvolgere il pubblico con calore, brio ed eleganza.

La sua classe d'interprete resta alta grazie alla proverbiale inventiva. Sheila trasforma tempi e melodie, gioca con le parole alterando i testi o dialoga col contrabbasso di Attilio Zanchi . Suo terreno preferito restano il grande songbook americano e i classici del bop come testimoniano la ricercata versione di ”Autumn in New York”, la vivace ”Oh, Lady Be Good” o gli omaggi a Charlie Parker con ”The Bird” o ”Confirmation”, eseguita con una brillante sequenza in scat. Altri momenti intensi arrivano a fine concerto con l'interpretazione di ”Workshop Blues” in dialogo col pubblico e col suo ”The Crossing”.
