Parker's Picks: Laura e Dintorni
Il gruppo/progetto Parker's Picks nasce nel 2008 e mette assieme ben quattro chitarristi (accompagnati in maniera canonica da basso e batteria) che si muovono come se fossero una sezioni di fiati e si concentrano nell'esplorazione di 9 brani scritti da Parker o resi famosi dalla sue magistrali interpretazioni.
Anche se questo è un gruppo tutto basato sulle sei corde delle quattro chitarre (per un totale di 28 corde, contando anche le quattro del basso), sin dal primo brano, la nervosa ed eccitante "Moose the Mooche," dobbiamo tener conto dell'ingresso in scena del sax dell'ospite-amico-mentore Claudio Allifranchini, una presenza significativa che sembra voler rimarcare che questa musica ha comunque qualcosa a che fare con gli ottoni.
I quattro chitarristi sono davvero ben affiatati e gli arrangiamenti sono freschi ed originali, le uscite in assolo sono eleganti e raffinate, anche se rimane la sensazione che la cifra stilistica adottata per questo progetto non comporti mai la possibilità di lasciarsi andare fino in fondo, cosa che magari avrebbe dato una scossa di modernità allo scenario prescelto. Diciamo questo, partendo dall'assunto che la musica di Parker possa essere assolutamente in grado di sopportare, senza problemi, una forzatura di questo tipo. Basta avere la voglia e il coraggio di provarci.
