Lanky è il classico esempio di jazz moderno ben suonato, con una ricerca di originalità che non sfocia in risultati clamorosi ma produce comunque situazioni di lodevole qualità.

Si possono così apprezzare una certa leggiadria esecutiva, un'accurata definizione timbrica, un'elegante organizzazione armonica. Complessivamente le composizioni tendono ad una certa uniformità strutturale ed espressiva, con la forma ballad che la fa da padrona.

Il Trachy Lacy Collective è un quartetto affiatato, con musicisti all'altezza della situazione, che sembrano preferire le accoglienti sponde di un jazz di maniera rispetto ai rischi necessari per rendere la proposta musicale maggiormente avventurosa e intrigante.

Di un certo interesse risulta la prova del pianista David Caldwell Mason per una piacevole commistione tra fraseggio bluesy e una concezione armonica di stampo classico.
