Ho appena finito di leggere la biografia di Monk scritta da Robin Kelley. E' fantastico ascoltare questo disco e sapere cosa accadeva nella sua vita al momento della registrazione. Mi piace il suo solismo, soprattutto in "Straight No Chaser," così paziente e melodico. Grande tempo e grande swing.
02. Bugallo/Williams Piano Duo - Nancarrow: Studies for Player Piano and Solos (Wergo - 2004).
03. Oppens/Jacobs - Stravinsky: Music for Two Pianos and 4 Hands (Nonesuch).
Sto ascoltando molta musica per due piano e quattro mani. Mi piace particolarmente la musica di Stravinsky. La musica di Nancarrow è stata originariamente composta per un solo pianoforte e Bugallo-Williams l'hanno trascritta e arrangiata per due pianoforti. Ma anche il disco originale per pianoforte solo è sorprendente.
04. Oldfather and Jennifer Lane - Book of the Hanging Gardens: Schoenberg (Naxos - 2005).
Sono davvero ispirata da questa musica. Le melodie di Schoenberg sono così angolari e mi piace come piano e voce interagiscono tra di loro.
05. Elliott Carter - Double Concerto for Harpsichord and Piano with Two Chamber Orchestras (Nonesuch - 1992).
Questo ascolto è stato raccomandato per un forum sulla composizione a cui sto partecipando. Mi è veramente piaciuto come Carter ha trattato la distribuzione di timbro e volume tra pianoforte e clavicembalo.
06. David Arden - Berio: The Complete Works for Solo Piano (New Albion - 2009).
Ho iniziato ad interessarmi della musica di Berio solo negli ultimi mesi. Riesce a ricavare un serie incredibile di situazioni dal piano, con l'uso dei pedali, degli armonici, delle note continuate, accordi suonati con ogni tipo di attacco. Sequenza e Leaf sono i miei preferiti.
07. White Stripes - White Stripes (V2 - 2002).
Si entra nel mondo sonoro della chitarra. Ed è completamente un altro mondo.
08. Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (Reprise - 1969).
Grandissimo cantautore.
09. Tim Berne - The Shell Game (Thirsty Ear - 2001).
Tim è un compositore straordinario. Adoro Hard Cell e il modo in cui Tom Rainey suona questa musica.
10. Irene Schweizer, Fred Anderson, Hamid Drake - Live Willisau and Taktlos (Intakt - 2007).
Ho ascoltato molto di Irene Schweizer ma scelgo questo disco. Mi piace il suo approccio forte e deciso e il fluire delle sue idee ti tiene incollato alla musica.
