Hanno coraggio da vendere i Kostcirkeln. Direte: perché? Presto detto. Iniziamo dal nome: quasi indigesto e/o non facile da pronunciare. Passiamo per la line up, davvero insolita, non solo per il numero (dieci elementi) ma anche per le timbriche (dall’ukulele all’eufonium; dall’hammond alle chitarre e a una sezione di ottoni). Per finire, cantano in danese.

Di loro si sa davvero poco. Il cantante e compositore, Qarin Wikström, è il front man della band. Le sue composizioni rivelano tutta la passione per la musica d’assieme. Gli arrangiamenti denotano gli aromi tipici delle big band del Nord Europa, ante e post seconda guerra mondiale: tanta tristezza, raffinatezze perse nel tempo (“Nara Nara”), aria decadente e funerea.

I testi parlano di storie pittoresche, miste a romanticismo e descrittivismo di persone contradditorie che non t’aspetti proprio.

Il disco di debutto sembra fermo nel tempo (“Spegelbild Skild”). Loro sembrano divertirsi tanto. L’ascoltatore sembrerà interdetto all’ascolto di questi miasmi che stanno a metà strada tra la pura sperimentazione alla Steve Reich il folletto islandese Björk e i folkloristici Sigur Ros. La musica è pura fascinazione e serve a colmare gli spazi vuoti di incomprensione (leggi lingua danese).

Un CD affascinante e innovativo.
