Jane Stuart: I´m Beginning to See the Light

Può darsi che chi legge abbia già ascoltato la suadente voce di Jane Stuart cantare jingle pubblicitari o l'abbia vista interpretare Joan Baez in Long Time Comin’ a Long Time Gone insieme a Richard Gere. O che l'abbia incontrata in uno dei tanti club di New York interpretare degli standard famosi.

Per la sua uscita su disco ha scelto la strada dell'autoproduzione, niente di nuovo fra le cantanti della sua generazione. Si presenta con un trio guidato dal pianoforte e dalle tastiere di Rave Tesar, solo ad accompagnarla in "For All We Know", mentre su "Moanin" di Bobby Timmons c'è una sezione fiati. Svolge bene il suo compito, con uno swing leggero, adatto ad un vasto pubblico, quello che ha scoperto Norah Jones ed un jazz/pop dalla facile fruizione.

C'è tuttavia eleganza e mestiere in quello che fa: il sapere stare nel gruppo, la pronuncia perfetta, la padronanza dei tempi, insomma il corretto lavoro di una cantante, la cui versione di "It Might Well Be Spring" non regge il confronto con le grandi (una per tutte: Cassandra Wilson su Rendez Vous con Jacky Terrasson), ma che di sicuro è più appetibile per le radio.
