Markus Pesonen Hendectet: Hum

Il Markus Pesonen Hendectet è un gruppo di undici musicisti, prevalentemente danesi e tedeschi (anche se il leader è il chitarrista finlandese Markus Pesonen), che si muovono fra Copenhagen e Berlino per cercare un punto di equilibrio fra il rock progressivo e la musica classica contemporanea, senza rinnegare il linguaggio jazzistico moderno che li accomuna. In questo ottimo Hum li troviamo alle prese con sei composizioni firmate proprio dal chitarrista e leader, alle quali si aggiungono, in coda, le riletture di "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" di Charles Mingus e la beatlesiana "A Day in the Life".

Gli arrangiamenti della sezione fiatistica sono decisamente ben pensati e ben eseguiti, la ritmica funziona egregiamente, fornendo un supporto intelligente e puntuale. La chitarra non è mai invadente e anzi sceglie spesso angoli nascosti per manifestarsi con sobrietà. Le due cover sono prese in maniera rispettosa ma anche poco convenzionale. In particolare ci piace ricordare la voce anti-climax di Elena Setin nella sezione cantata della suggestiva "A Day in the Life," uno dei brani più belli scritti da John Lennon e Paul McCartney. Una sezione rallentata e sospesa nell'aria, alla quale fanno poi seguito le accelerazioni dei fiati. Niente male.
