Eric Vloeimans: Heavens Above!
Questo l'incipit delle note di copertina del CD. Come dire: puristi, state alla larga. Non aspettatevi un genere specifico, uno stile specifico. Non sorprendetevi se troverete, in rapida sequenza, un omaggio a Maceo Parker, un tema delicato e malinconico, una struttura ritmica alla Steve Coleman, improvvisazioni estemporanee, echi dell'Est.
L'elemento unificante di questo caleidoscopio è la lucida immaginazione di Vloeimans, vulcanico trombettista che sfugge alle categorizzazioni e suona, semplicemente, ciò che ama.
Il sound è molto anni '70, quasi davisiano nell'uso insistito del Fender Rhodes, ma la musica è decisamente contemporanea. Su CD si perde forse un po' dell'energia, del divertimento intrinseco di questa musica, che dal vivo promette scintille. Chi ha avuto il piacere di ascoltare Vloeimans in concerto, come chi scrive, sa bene che il nostro è un sincero animale da palcoscenico.
Le note di copertina del CD si chiudono con un significativo "Have Fun!". Non possiamo che associarci.
