02. Duke Ellington - Piano Reflections (Capitol - 1953). Il migliore dei suoi dischi in trio. Particolarmente commoventi sono i brani "Retrospection", "Reflections In D", and "Melancholia", splendidi temi senza improvvisazione.
03. John Coltrane - Live at the Village Vanguard (The Master Takes) (Impulse - 1961). "Chasin' the Trane" è un ottimo brano da utilizzare per lo studio. E' anche una delle prime performance di Jimmy Garrison con Trane. E si può anche capire perché Garrison fu ingaggiato!
04. Charlie Haden - The Golden Number (A&M). Duetti con Don Cherry, Archie Shepp, Hampton Hawes, e Ornette Coleman alla tromba. Questo è sempre stato uno dei miei dischi preferiti e vi è il miglior Shepp mai sentito. Don è il più grande. Hampton se ne sarebbe andato di lì a poco, la sua interpretazione del blues sembra essere proprio il suo commiato.
05. Barry Harris - Magnificent (Prestige - 1969). E' un disco che mi ha consigliato Sam Yahel. Potrebbe essere il suo disco migliore: è particolarmente disteso e fluido e Ron Carter suona veramente bene.
06. Claudio Arrau - Liszt Piano Music (Phillips). La "Ballade No. 2" potrebbe sembrare banale, ma Arrau ti fa credere alle favole. Suona "Gnomenreigen" ad un tempo più lento della maggior parte di pianisti, ma con una tale cura del dettaglio che lo fa sembrare ancor più virtuoso.
07. Thomas Adés - Piano Quintet (EMI Classics). Il pezzo più recente di un brillante compositore. Ades è al piano accompagnato dall'Arditti Quartet. Ci sono alcuni dei ritmi più bizzarri mai prodotti da esseri umani.
08. Gidon Kremer - J. S. Bach: The Sonatas and Partitas (ECM). Un disco molto intenso e bello di musica familiare, nuovo di zecca.
09. Wilhelm Kempff - Brahms Late Piano Music (Deutsche Grammophon). Kempff suona questo difficile repertorio come un musicista folk, con swing, ritmo e immediatezza. E' uno dei più grandi dischi di pianoforte.
10. György Lieti - The Ligeti Project I (Teldec) "Melodien", "Chamber Concerto", and "Piano Concerto" sono composizioni che continuo a studiare diverse volte all'anno.
