Umberto Sangiovanni Dauniaorchestra: Di fame di denaro di passioni

Il pianista Umberto Sangiovanni ripropone la sua Dauniaorchestra (in formazione assai modificata rispetto ai primi dischi La controra e Calasole) per realizzare questo Tributo a Matteo Salvatore, stralunata "gloria" della musica popolare pugliese (clicca qui per leggere la recensione della sua autobiografia).

Il CD - che trae la sua origine da uno spettacolo teatrale con Sergio Rubini, del quale questa musica costituiva la colonna sonora - vede in programma sette brani su nove di Salvatore e poggia su una base molto semplice e lineare, con piano e basso che accompagnano la voce, e la tromba a svolgere un ruolo di controcanto.

La voce femminile spinge tuttavia a rileggere i brani di Salvatore - sempre venati di amara ironia, ma poeticamente aspri - in una chiave più lirica e delicata, cosa che apre scenari nuovi, ma può destare anche qualche perplessità, andando a intaccare proprio una delle caratteristiche principali della musica del cantautore pugliese. La cosa è particolarmente evidente, ad esempio, in brani come "Feciteve li cazza vostra" e "Padrone mio," dove l'addolcimento dei toni pare indebolire il testo.

Ciononostante, il disco è interessante e ben realizzato, e ha il pregio di fornire un'ulteriore occasione per ricordare e far conoscere la figura di Salvatore, in precedenza omaggiata e proposta a un pubblico ampio da Daniele Sepe e Auli Kokko.
