Camila Nebbia, Satoko Fujii & Cassandra Wilson

This episode is a mixed bag of new and almost new music from new releases. There's a definite Berlin, Germany connection to two of the featured albums—that city is now home base for Argentinian saxophonist Camila Nebbia who continues to march through the free jazz world with abandon. Her newest release, Limbo , introduces her new group, The Hanged Ones, and they match Nebbia note for note, raunch for raunch. Berlin is also one of the locations in the world where Japanese grande dame pianist Satoko Fujii has stashed one of her large ensembles. This summer, Ms Fujii is releasing five albums featuring her large orchestras who hold nothing back. You'll hear English vibraphonist Martin Pyne, as well as a retro album with music from the late English bassist Danny Thompson (think Pentangle, Richard Thompson, Allan Holdsworth), drummer Devin Gray with his buddy saxophonist Nathaniel Morgan, saxophonist Patrick Shiroishi & drummer Jason Nazary with a set dedicated to Jaimie Branch, some poetry/avant-garde music from St. Louis' K. Curtis Lyle with trumpeter George R. Sams & bassist Damon Smith, and a closing tribute to the magnificent Cassandra Wilson.
