Richard Thompson

Born:

In 2017, Ivor Novello Award-winning and GRAMMY® Award-nominated legend Richard Thompson gave himself up to the music itself. Picking up a guitar, emotions echoed through his deft fleet-fingered fretwork, poetic songwriting, impassioned picking. Those transmissions comprise his nineteenth solo album, 13 Rivers. “I never really think about what songs mean,” he admits. “I just write them. Some of them reflect on what happened a few months ago or even a year ago. Read "Jazz Meets Folk, Folk Meets Jazz" reviewed by Jerome Wilson

There are jazz musicians like Dave Brubeck and Dave Douglas dabbling in folk forms and folk musicians like Pentangle and Dave Van Ronk exercising their jazz chops. There are also pieces based on folk musics outside of the usual Anglo-American axis.

Live in the 20th & 21st Century is not the first collection of Marshall Crenshaw in concert. The Wild Exciting Sounds of Marshall Crenshaw follows collections titled (with equally sardonic wit) My Truck is My Home (Razor & Tie, 1994) and I've Suffered For My Art...Now It's Your Turn (King Biscuit, 2001), among others. Los Lobos: Native Sons

Read "Native Sons" reviewed by Doug Collette

It's a generosity of spirit that actually recalls an ...

Woodstock—Back to the Garden: 50th Anniversary Experience

Read "Woodstock—Back to the Garden: 50th Anniversary Experience" reviewed by John Kelman

First things first. For all but the most committed of fans, knowledge of what transpired, how it transpired and when it transpired at the now-legendary 1969 Woodstock Music & Arts Fair has, despite a variety of initial, 25th and 40th Anniversary audio and video releases, been severely limited. As engaging, entertaining and well-constructed as these various ...

Read "John Kelman's Best Releases of 2018" reviewed by John Kelman

Once again, the chronic health problem that has reduced my writing pace to a crawl continues without any respite.
