Franck Vigroux - Matthew Bourne: Call Me Madame (good news from wonderland)

La comune passione per i suoni grossi dei synth analogici è stata la driving force per la ideazione di questo bel progetto che accomuna il chitarrista/tastierista/manipolatore francese Franck Vigroux con il pianista britannico Matthew Bourne. Il clima è plumbeo, carico di tensione. I livelli di registrazione sono tenuti volutamente molto alti, per chiarire subito che qui non c'è alcun interesse per i tappeti sonori che hanno ammorbato la maggior parte della produzione musicale degli anni ottanta.

I synth analogici vengono dapprima spolverati amorosamente per poi passare ad essere protagonisti involontari di deflorazione e violenza. Alla fine vengono stesi a sgocciolare al sole, con una abbondante fuoriuscita di grumi sanguinolenti che trasportano in giro un suono impetuoso e aggressivo. Non ci sono compiacimenti, non ci sono isole di algida beatitudine. Qui è tutta lava incandescente, qui non si fanno prigionieri.

Il brano "Call Me Madame" lascia intravvedere alcune esplorazioni pianistiche che curiosamente assomigliano alle introduzioni molto dilatate che caratterizzavano le innumerevoli versioni dal vivo di "Directions," il brano di Joe Zawinul che apriva immancabilmente i concerti live del gruppo di Miles Davis nei primi anni settanta. Ma è una citazione probabilmente involontaria, che semmai lascia capire il grado di determinazione e la forza di assalto di questi due impavidi rocciatori.

Le capacità di manipolazione di Franck Vigroux e Matthew Bourne sono davvero al di sopra della media e la miriade di suoni e di borbottii elettroacustici che riempiono queste escursioni sonore è davvero impressionante. Qua e là si aggiunge la voce trasfigurata di Annabelle Playe, ma sostanzialmente l'ordalia sonora che assale i nostri sensi proviene da due soli musicisti e dalle loro proteiformi evoluzioni, anche se risulta difficile da credere mentre si ascolta questo album così denso è carico di impatto sonoro.
