Matthew Bourne

Born October 6th, 1977, Avebury, England; pianist and composer Matthew Bourne first came to national attention as one of the winners of the Perrier Jazz Awards in London, 2001. In the same year Bourne graduated from Leeds College of Music. Bourne’s unique ability to create powerful imagery through an esoteric piano language along with spoken word samples earned him the Innovation Award at the BBC Radio Jazz Awards in 2002. World Sanguine Report: Skeleton Blush

Read "Skeleton Blush" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Don't be fooled by the appearance of “sanguine" in the band name. World Sanguine Report is not a band given to gentle optimism, or relaxed acceptance of whatever situation it's in. Look instead to the meaning of the word in heraldic terms—blood red. Skeleton Blush is filled with hard-edged, powerful and uncompromising songs, an album that ...

Nightports w/Matthew Bourne: Nightports

Read "Nightports" reviewed by Gareth Thompson

The night he was named Perrier Young Jazz Musician 2001, pianist Matthew Bourne gave a performance that rather set out his stall. Using stillness and eruptions in the mode of Ran Blake, with soundtrack samples from Willy Wonka, Bourne played like a man possessed. Since then he's left few tones unturned in the search for new ...

Nick Davies Best Releases of 2016

Read "Nick Davies Best Releases of 2016" reviewed by Nick Davies

In terms of jazz 2016 has been a strong year with a number of solid releases and this has made the task of choosing twelve releases all that more difficult. The selections I have made take the listening on a journey from Matthew Bourne and his experimental sounds of the Moog to Nat Birchall more traditional ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
