Daniel Smith: Blue Bassoon
Rispetto all'episodio precedente vi è in Blue Bassoon una maggiore varietà nelle atmosfere dei brani ed anche un maggior appeal nella modalità di interpretazione, ma permangono tutti i dubbi sul significato di un'operazione del genere. L'esibizionismo strumentale risulta alla fine stucchevole e noioso, e facciamo sinceramente fatica a scorgere dietro questi progetti una vera urgenza espressiva.
Complessivamente il trio si dimostra solido e pertinente, Smith possiede una tecnica straordinaria, ma sentire il suono nasale e strozzato del suo fagotto in brani come "Footprints" di Wayne Shorter e "Equinox" di John Coltrane fa venire i brividi. E certo non di piacere!
