Benoit Delbecq - Francois Houle: Because She Hoped

Nell'aria inevitabilmente cameristica che si respira in questo CD, il pianista parigino Benoit Delbecq e il clarinettista canadese Francois Houle riescono ad evitare ogni soluzione di continuità eccessiva tra l'improvvisazione e gli stralci tematici, che talvolta sono parti scritte, altre volte sono delle brevi strutture ricorrenti, oppure semplici indicazioni armoniche.

Così il clima del tutto estemporaneo che si crea in ogni esecuzione è totale e le due versioni di Pour Pee Wee (la prima in studio e la seconda dal vivo) sono completamente diverse anche nella durata. Insieme creano di volta in volta paesaggi crepuscolari dai cromatismi scuri grazie a reticoli di note sospese, assoli pindarici che si librano sulla ritmica ossessiva del piano preparato ("Cliché," "Nancali" e "Ando"), circolarità atonali e rabdomantiche ("Binocular"), improvvisazione a due voci da cui emergono come dalla nebbia brevissimi agglomerati armonici ("Because She Hoped") o anche temi conchiusi, come il pianto lirico di "Le concombre chicoutimi" o l'esotico "The Mistery Song" di Ellington che è uno dei pezzi più belli di tutto il disco.
