Marcel Loeffler: Around Gus

Gus Viseur è un mitico antesignano della fisarmonica jazz, avendo collaborato negli anni trenta con l'Hot Club de France di Django Reinhardt, ma è uno dei maestri francesi dello strumento, con il quale ha contribuito a rendere grande la musette ed ha accompagnato tra gli altri Edith Piaf. Un suo compatriota e odierno di origine manouche, Marcel Loeffler, gli rende omaggio in questo lavoro, che vede in programma composizioni di dell'uno e dell'altro fisarmonicista, assieme ad altri brani della tradizione e originali.

La cifra è molto tradizionale, né potrebbe essere diversamente visto il programma e la formazione, che vede accanto alla fisarmonica solo chitarre (c'è anche Mandino Reinhardt), oltre al contrabbasso di Claudius Dupont - che è infatti fin dal primo brano forse l'unico elemento di parziale originalità, con i suoi (pur brevi) assolo. Per il resto, belle melodie, ora più veloci, ora molto toccanti come "Le bal du petit jardin" o "Flambée montalbanaise" (interpretata magnificamente alla voce da André Minvelle), che mettono in luce in particolare le qualità di Loeffler, agile sulla tastiera e capace di bel suono.

Più aperti i brani in cui prende spazio il clarinetto di Raymond Halbeisen, ma sempre molto coinvolgenti le atmosfere che, da programma, fanno tanto vieille France.
