The Kevin Brady Trio featuring Bill Carrothers: Zeitgeist
Un disco diverso rispetto alle sue esperienze con gli "Organics," incentrate sulle calde e sanguigne sonorità del groove, tipiche dell'organo hammond. Grazie anche alle belle composizioni di un Bill Carrothers in gran spolvero, la musica di Brady mostra ora il suo lato lunare, affondando le radici nella formula evansiana degli anni '60 opportunamente rivisitata.
Le nove composizioni originali fanno il resto, contribuendo a dar corpo ad un percorso mai scontato nel suo mainstream di base. Ne discende un fresco impasto sonoro testimoniato da una rivitalizzata versione della shorteriana "Black Nile," forse il vertice espressivo di tutto il CD.
Zeitgeist, pur non raggiungendo i picchi artistici di un capolavoro, merita una certa attenzione. Vi si gusta il raffinato pianismo di Carrothers, al cui servizio opera una ritmica elastica e dinamica.
