MoLd: Voodoo Down Jump

Vi è una giovane scena danese piuttosto effervescente ed eterogenea e vi è un'etichetta che si è presa la briga di testimoniarla. Dando la possibilità ai musicisti di incrociarsi tra di loro in contesti assai diversi, ILK cerca di offrire un panorama quanto più esteso di quella scena creativa offrendo ai musicisti assoluta libertà espressiva.

Voodoo Down Jump è il risultato di uno di questi incontri: album inclassificabile (il che è quasi sempre un pregio), nessun riferimento a "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down" di davisiana memoria, il terzo lavoro di MoLd eccede un poco in riferimenti stilistici e in miscugli di generi non sempre a fuoco e non sempre organizzati in maniera organica.

A fronte di momenti intriganti e riusciti, la scoppiettante ed eccentrica title track, "Tricycle" con un esaltante crescendo di sapore balcanico, "Brightness in a Danger," brano complesso che richiama il Threadgill anni novanta, ve ne sono altri o eccessivamente ammantati di camerismo un po' incolore, "Walls" e "Dust," o eccessivamente pretenziosi dal punto di vista compositivo e strutturale, la lunga "Gated Perception, Gated Community".

Intendiamoci, Voodoo Down Jump è album complessivamente piacevole, interessante e ben suonato, ma si ha l'impressione che i quattro giovanotti danesi abbiano voluto fare il passo più lungo della propria gamba...
