Nordic Circles: Under the Clouds
Registrato nel celebrato Rainbow Studio di Oslo, il disco affascina per gli aspetti citati e non teme di spingersi verso leggerezze pop. Non è affatto una critica. La statura dei musicisti (uno tra tutti: il pianista Lars Jansson è uno storico protagonista del jazz svedese) fa di ogni brano un episodio lirico, anche nei momenti liberamente improvvisati («Searching for Meaning»). La strada intrapresa da quel filone del jazz nord-europeo che esalta linearità melodica, suggestioni timbriche e concitazioni ritmiche (ha toccato l'apice col trio EST) si aggiunge di un nuovo organico, che non cerca suggestioni epidermiche e resta dentro i confini del buon gusto e della qualità.
Il percorso musicale si snoda attraverso seducenti ballad , brani danzanti, incursioni nel folk scandinavo e nel jazz ritmicamente più incisivo («School Dance») con assoli lineari e alcuni momenti memorabili. La luminose interpretazioni vocali della giovane Siril Malmedal Hauge sono tra questi.
