Delude questo Trio Tragico.

C’erano almeno tre motivi che portavano ad attendere un album di ben altra fattura e caratura.

La strumentazione atipica, tromba clarinetto e contrabbasso, faceva intravedere combinazioni timbriche avvincenti e ricche di sfumature. Al contrario il clima generale del disco rasenta la monotonia se non addirittura la noia, con rarissimi scarti timbrici ed un uso minimo delle dinamiche.

Poi la caratura dei musicisti, da sempre impegnati in un idea di musica totale senza barriere e senza preconcetti, aperti a recepire le sollecitazioni più disparate, e qui invece immersi in una sorta di apatia creativa.

Infine la splendida copertina cartonata a mo’ di fumetto poteva essere foriera di una musica ironica, colorata, stimolante che lavorasse sul materiale scritto con verve e senso dell’umorismo. Invece dopo un promettente inizio, “Boomerang“ e “I Should Talk“ sono tra le poche cose da salvare grazie ad una soave vena cameristica, l’album scivola lentamente verso tinte cupe, fosche e di scarsa personalità.

Ma soprattutto sembra mancare una direzione musicale chiara e definita, toppa indecisa tra recupero - re-invenzione - omaggio - alla tradizione musicale del proprio paese e attrazione verso forme aperte di matrice contemporanea.
