Spin Marvel 2: The Reluctantly Politicised Mr. James

Spin Marvel è una formazione nata nel 2005 da un gruppo di musicisti europei dalle ampie vedute e senza preconcetti stilistici. Guidato dal batterista inglese Martin France (già membro di quell'incredibile fucina di talenti che è stata la big band Loose Tubes) Spin Marvel 2 vede, rispetto al celebrato album d'esordio, l'apporto decisivo del trombettista Nils Petter Molvaer. Insieme all'altro norvegese del gruppo, il percussionista Terje Evensen, indirizza la musica verso una maggior astrazione, verso una fluidità quasi metafisica nella quale armonia, ritmo e melodia sembrano veleggiare senza peso e senza soluzione di continuità che porta a orizzonti infiniti.

Organizzato in sette brani che danno vita ad un'unica suite, The Reluctantly Politicised Mr. James vive sul contrasto tra le atmosfere rilassate, aperte a tratti visionarie della matrice scandinava del gruppo ed il groove carsico, a volte appena percettibile a tratti addirittura prorompente, prodotto dalla componente britannica.

La chitarra di Parricelli si muove felpata attraverso le trame intessute dal leader, morbida nei grovigli elettronici, pungente e acida quando le atmosfere si fanno troppe rilassate. Mentre l'apporto di Evensen diventa decisivo soprattutto nelle vesti di sound-audio editor, in grado di cogliere al meglio le mille sfumature di una musica apparentemente monocorde.

The Reluctantly Politicised Mr. James non troverà molti estimatori tra i puristi del jazz, ma in compenso offre una versione altamente creativa di un genere musicale spesso appiattito e di maniera.
