Wayne Wallace: The Nature of the Beat
La mistura di salsa, funk, soul, jazz è alla base del disco del trombonista Wayne Wallace, la cui idea è sì di dare una veste "latina" a brani conosciuti in altri contesti, ma anche di raggiungere il grosso pubblico con un prodotto di qualità, lontano da suoni preconfezionati.

Troviamo quindi "Jeru" di Gerry Mulligan, presente per chi non lo ricorda in Birth of the Cool di Miles Davis, "Coming Running to Me" di Herbie Hanckock, o ancora "Unchain My Heart," famosa nlle interpretazioni di Ray Charles o Joe Cocker. L'incrocio con il funk è ben riuscito, prendiamo ad esempio "Mis Amigos" o "Serpentine Fire," interpretata ispirandosi a James Brown e lasciando al pianoforte il compito di proseguire per ottave parallele. Sono tutte soluzioni che rendono il disco di un certo pregio, irresistibile per i ballerini e ascoltabile per gli altri.
