Stefan Pasborg: The Firebirds
Il quarantenne batterista danese Stefan Pasborg, un carnet di collaborazioni veramente cospicuo e brillante, è l'artefice di questo ambizioso progetto discografico che consiste nella rilettura di due dei massimi capolavori stravinskyani, L'uccello di fuoco (1910) e La sagra della primavera (1913), integrati (ultimo pezzo) da un ulteriore balletto del 1948 opera di Khachaturian.

La trasfigurazione per trio del tutto appare però, a conti fatti, un po' troppo cospicua, ma è comunque il livello globale della musica proposta, indipendentemente da ciò che intende veicolare, a non convincere sino in fondo. Vi si respira infatti una certa freddezza, e calligrafismo, ed epidermicità, come se l'interiorizzazione del processo ricostruttivo non risultasse completamente compiuto.

Andando a pescare fra i singoli episodi, sembra di poter dire che si salva almeno parzialmente quello centrale della seconda suite ("Dances of the Young Girls"), per una sua vivacità pur nel tono quasi funkeggiante (o forse proprio per questo). Altrove un descrittivismo fin troppo insistito fa sì che la musica ci transiti addosso senza lasciare granché traccia di sé, come perennemente in controluce, sostanzialmente inespressa rispetto alle sue reali potenzialità.

Buone, quindi, le intenzioni (forse...), un po' meno i risultati tangibili.
