Avishai Cohen: Dark Nights
by Vincenzo Roggero
Bernie Worrell: The Upper Air
by Maurizio Zerbo
Yard Byard - The Jaki Byard Project: Inch by Inch
by Angelo Leonardi
Take Five With Rik Wright
by AAJ Staff
Meet Rik Wright: A graph of Rik Wright's influences would read like a wave, running a gamut from jazz to rock and back again. As a guitarist he has taken on influences, often subconsciously, as varied as Andy Summers of The Police and John Abercrombie. Compositionally speaking, Wright hangs with a different crowd altogether, mingling ...

01. Dave Douglas & Uri Caine -Present Joys (Greenleaf Music -2014). Guitarist Michael Anthony, whose warm salute to mentor and friend Howard Roberts, Recollections, was reviewed here in June, recorded another tribute album seven years earlier (2007), this one dedicated to another longtime friend and colleague, the late Al Viola, who passed away in February of that year. Anthony says he was fortunate to have met Roberts ...

Jason Ajemian: Folklords
by Troy Collins
Folklords is one of the most adventurous albums to be issued by Delmark Records since Levels and Degrees of Light, the auspicious recording debut of pianist and composer Muhal Richard Abrams in 1967. Bassist Jason Ajemian's second effort for the venerable label, following 2008's The Art of Dying, conceptually surpasses his prior work by leaps and ...
