About the Album
The New England Jazz Collaborative’s debut is an excellent solution to the challenge that young composers writing for big bands face in getting their music performed and heard. All four of the featured composers have written distinctive and fascinating pieces that are masterfully performed by this ensemble. “Ol’ Liminal” is a tricky and delightfully subversive piece composed by Matan Rubinstein. It mixes the second line grooves of New Orleans with indie and electronic rock influences to create a most vibrant sound.
