Musician

Booker T. Jones

Born:

From an early age, Booker T. Jones—“one of the legends of soul music” (The New Yorker)—was captivated by the magic of melody, rhythm, and harmony. So magnetic was the attraction, in fact, that by the time he turned sixteen, he was, incredibly, already a working musician with a hit song to his name. As part of the first house band for Stax Records, he formed the category-defining group Booker T. & the MGs, whose first recording, “Green Onions,” was an international sensation, selling more than one million copies and winning a place among Rolling Stone’s top five hundred songs of all time

(Santana, the ...

Nuphar Fey: Serenity Island

Read "Serenity Island" reviewed by Mike Jurkovic

It comes at you like the sea winds which open the exotic chamber jazz muse “Wind of South" then passes over you warmly, with all its ghosts and lost voices as the music moves on. With a stunningly ...

A staggering statement of will and love, 8: Kindred Spirits (Live at The Lobero) big bangs from thin air with “Dreamweaver," a twenty-one minute excursion that doubles down on Charles Lloyd's casually grand schemata that anything and everything goes, that as long as we're all in the music's same head space we can know peace. It's ...
