André Santos: Vitamina D

Vitamina D is guitarist André Santos' third album, following Ponto de Partida (2013) and Mano A Mano (2014). Not having heard the earlier two discs, there is little to say here about this latest project in relation to Santos' earlier work. That said, the cover of Vitamina D gives a good indication of the ...

It's all there in the cover photo--shot in black and white André and Bruno Santos gaze impassively back at the listener clutching their magnificent semi acoustic electric guitars (surely the classic jazz guitar look?), the modernity of their relaxed personal style contrasting with the sixties brutalist concrete geometric pattern behind them. André Santos: Ponto De Partida

Listening to Ponto de Partida (Starting Point), it's rather hard to believe that André Santos has been playing jazz for less than 10 years. The young Portuguese guitarist's charming, understated debut album seems like the work of an older musician: one, perhaps, with nothing to prove except for the sheer enjoyment of making music. From the ...

André Santos: Ponto de Partida

There is something wonderful about watching a talented musician make the leap to bandleader and composer on record for the first time. Possibilities have yet to be closed off, the inspiration simply to showcase a personal take on the music they love, the budget not even contemplating high concepts, lavish orchestras, or if you're Rick Wakeman ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
